Thailand has generous policies towards allowing foreigners to enter into its country. Most citizens of foreign countries can enter Thailand for 30 days as long as they have a passport and a return ticket to leave Thailand; they are not required to have a visa.
You can apply for a visa in your home country before entering Thailand or after entering Thailand. The most common types are tourist or non immigrant single entry and multiple entries. The Thailand government does change its visa rules and requirements occasionally and you should contact them several months before you apply for a visa to make sure you have your paperwork properly prepared.
