Thailand’s currency is the Thai Baht and in coins it comes in 1, 2, 5 and 10 Bahts. In bills it comes in 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 Bahts. Before traveling to Thailand make a list of the Thai denominations in bills and their equivalent in your home currency so you will have a quick reference to what things cost in Thailand compared to your home.
Thailand is filled with ATM machines everywhere because Thais use cash for most of their transactions. Currency exchange services are found at most banks and special exchange booths that are located in tourist hotspots and some are open 24/7. Most ATM machines accept credit cards from all over the world for cash withdraws into Thai currency. You need to contact your credit card company before traveling to Thailand to make sure they will authorize purchases and ATM withdraws during your time in Thailand.
Banks are conveniently located everywhere in Thailand. The branches located in the shopping malls are open every day from around 10 AM until 9 PM. Many hotels have some banking services like exchanging traveler’s checks, cash or credit card advances.
